Visit of Danish Maritime Authorities

In November 2008 A.P. Moller – Maersk Group / Marine HR initiated a visit of the Danish Maritime Authorities (DMA) to the main Maritime Educational Institutions of Ukraine. The purpose of this visit was to familiarize themselves with the Ukrainian Maritime Educational System, its compliance with Danish requirements and as a result to exempt Ukrainian officers from obligatory operational tests of DMA and to have Ukraine among so called “white listed” countries.
Ahead was an intensive 4 days trip of DMA representatives Mr. Hemming Hindborg, Chief Examiner and Mr. Mads Schear Mikkelsen, Special Adviser accompanied by Ms. Anna Bereslavskaya, Branch Manager of Maersk Crewing Ukraine.

With organizational support of Maersk Crewing Ukraine and a great co-operation and hospitality of:

• Odessa National Maritime Academy,
• Kiev State Maritime Academy,
• Kherson State Maritime Institute,
• Sevastopol National Technical University (Faculty of Maritime Technologies and Navigation).

as well as Inspectorate for Training and Certification of Seafarers of Ukraine and Odessa Maritime Training Center DMA representatives had a great chance to get acquainted with educational process of Ukrainian maritime specialists, training facilities and to discuss advantages and disadvantages of educational process with the staff of Maritime Institutions.
The inspection of DMA has brought positive results and as from 1 April 2009 all officers – except for the position as chief engineer - graduated later than 1 January 2001 from the four institutions are exempted from the general requirement of passing an operational test and interview when applying for a Danish Certificate of Recognition of their Ukraine Certificate of Competency as a deck officer or as marine engineer officer.
Such an event simplifies the recruitment process of Ukrainian officers for expansive fleet of the Company and the right step to crew internationalization.
